Ashoka AI Lab
Ashoka is a global network of social entrepreneurs. I started developing AI apps for Ashoka in 2022 and co-founded the AI Lab in 2023. It puts AI on Ashoka's agenda, changes how the organization works, and makes the global network more effective.
What the Lab does
Partner in crime: Daniela Matielo.

Anchor
We work with teams across Ashoka to strengthen AI governance, IT infrastructure, AI literacy, and data management, so each new tool lands on solid ground. See our AI Readiness framework.

Build
I built 30+ AI applications with dozens of teams. Four of them became flagship applications. Like Rapid, a comprehensive AI system that collects updated information from Ashoka Fellows, which makes almost everything we do at Ashoka more efficient.

Surface
We turn live data from Ashoka's global network into insight. Together with other teams at Ashoka, we are currently creating products that will make those insights available to journalists, donors, policymakers, and the wider world.

Share
We publish, speak, and contribute to conferences so other organizations can learn from our experiences. Our methodology is laid out in our World Economic Forum article (opens in new tab) on Conscious Tinkering. See Talks & Writing for more publications.
How we work

Conscious Tinkering
Address the bottleneck of a team where the fix also strengthens one element of the org's AI Readiness. Build the simplest thing that helps, fast. Repeat.
The method →
Building is leadership
See building for what it is: a leadership technique that inspires, aligns, and builds trust. Don't wait for a strategy. Build to make a strategy possible.
The mantra →Want to bring this approach to your organization?
I take a small number of outside engagements per year.
